Shopify POS Quick Start
Plan and test eligible DiscountLab workflows for in-store selling
Shopify POS and the online store can share a promotion strategy, but they do not always provide identical cart context or staff workflows. Treat POS as a separate test surface.
Eligibility depends on the workflow
Support on Shopify POS depends on the discount class, conditions, targets, and Shopify surface involved. Verify the specific workflow rather than assuming every online rule behaves identically in store.
Prepare the workflow
Start with a simple eligible rule
Use a promotion with products and customer context that staff can reproduce easily at a test location.
Review channel-sensitive conditions
Check whether the workflow relies on information that may differ between online checkout and POS, including customer attachment, delivery details, or cart composition.
Test in Shopify POS
Build an eligible cart and confirm the intended target and reward. Then remove one eligibility condition and confirm the reward no longer applies.
Give staff a clear promotion brief
Document the dates, eligible products or customers, expected reward, exclusions, and what staff should do if the result differs.
POS test checklist
- Test with and without an identified customer when customer logic is used.
- Test included and excluded products.
- Test threshold boundaries.
- Test discount combinations used at the location.
- Confirm the expected behavior after cart quantity changes.
- Confirm staff can recognize when the promotion should and should not apply.
